Remote tutoring over Zoom

The same one-to-one tutoring, from anywhere. $60 per hour, and your first hour is $30.

How it works

We meet over Zoom. I run two cameras: one on me, so we talk face to face, and a second pointed down at a sheet of paper on my desk where I work the computations as we go. You watch the math being written out in real time, the same as if we were sitting side by side.

I'll tutor anyone, anywhere in the world, as long as we can work in English and the student is willing to put in the effort. I've worked with students in several states, including Southern California, where I tutored in Huntington Beach for many years, and with local students right through the pandemic.

Getting the most from a remote session

  • Email me your materials first. A photo or PDF of the problems and the textbook section. Then we hit the ground running instead of spending your time working out which problem we're discussing. Earlier is better: half an hour of lead time lets me prepare, and refresh on a topic if I need to.
  • Have questions ready. Remote works best for students who are motivated and know what they're stuck on.
  • Check the time zone. My calendar is on Denver time (Mountain). If it says 5 pm, that's 4 pm Pacific.

None of that is a hard requirement. I'm easy-going and there's no pressure. But the hour goes much further with preparation.

My honest view: in person is better

I'll say this even though remote is convenient for both of us. In my experience, in-person tutoring is more effective. A tutor and student build rapport and trust faster face to face, and a student at home has more to distract them.

That said, everybody is different. Since the pandemic many students have become very comfortable learning online, and remote works great for students who bring questions and focus. If remote suits your family, I'm glad to do it. If you'd rather meet in person and live near Aurora or Centennial, here are the rates and travel details.
